At Dockflow, we track millions of containers across the world’s oceans. But those oceans are more than just highways for cargo. They’re living ecosystems that support billions of people and countless marine species.

This holiday season, instead of sending traditional gifts to our customers, we partnered with Go Ocean to restore coral reefs in Indonesia and Madagascar. Here’s why it matters.

The State of Coral Reefs

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet they support 25% of all marine life. They protect coastlines from erosion, generate billions in economic value through fishing and tourism, and act as carbon sinks that help regulate the climate.

But coral reefs are disappearing at alarming rates. Climate change, ocean acidification, pollution, and destructive fishing practices have already destroyed or severely damaged over 50% of the world’s coral reefs. Scientists warn that without intervention, 90% of reefs could be gone by 2050.

Maritime logistics’ environmental footprint affects marine ecosystems globally. This makes ocean stewardship a responsibility, not just an option, for companies in the shipping sector.

How We’re Helping: The Go Ocean Partnership

Go Ocean works with local communities in Indonesia’s “Coral Triangle” and Madagascar’s Western Indian Ocean; two of the most biodiverse marine regions on the planet. Using innovative “reef star” technology, trained local divers transplant coral fragments onto metal structures that provide a stable foundation for growth.

These aren’t just environmental projects. They’re economic lifelines. Local communities receive training, employment, and a direct stake in restoring their marine ecosystems. The corals are carefully selected for resilience, diversity, and their ability to adapt to warming waters.

Why This Matters to Dockflow

Shipping is responsible for nearly 3% of global CO₂ emissions, and the industry is under increasing pressure to operate sustainably. At Dockflow, we’re already helping logistics teams track and reduce their carbon footprint with AI-powered emissions calculations and, soon, route optimization.

But sustainability isn’t just about reducing harm; it’s about actively contributing to solutions. Coral reef restoration addresses one of the ocean’s most urgent challenges while supporting the communities that depend on it.

By partnering with Go Ocean, we’re not just offsetting emissions. We’re investing in the long-term health of the oceans that power global trade.

A Small Step Toward a Bigger Mission

This holiday initiative is small compared to the scale of the problem. But every coral fragment matters. And every business that takes responsibility for its environmental impact creates momentum for larger change.

If you’re a Dockflow customer, thank you. Your partnership made this possible. If you’re exploring ways to make your own logistics operations more sustainable, we’d love to help.
